Playa de Las Americas

The reputation of
Playa de Las Americas as a concrete jungle of tackiness is fast
disappearing into the history books. Now it sports a more
sophisticated reputation of quality and an up market reputation.
Finishing in 2007 you will find a vast pedestrian area taking in
most of the 3km stretch from Los Cristianos to Fañabe. Certainly
a resort with a fast growing reputation for excellent hotels and
quality shopping. There is still the central area of Veronicas,
that attracts the young people with the many discotheques and
bars, much the same as any holiday resort, however there is much
more to Las Americas than this past attraction. |

Central Las
Americas was built in the 1970s, however to improve the
resort's image and finances there has been substantial effort to
attract more affluent tourists, with four- and five-star hotels
appearing in the more salubrious districts on the edges of Playa
de Las Americas. Just north of central Las Americas, San
Eugenio and its British-dominated northern neighbour
Torviscas have successfully become family destinations,
while the new yachting marina Puerto Colon between the
two is slowly emerging as a trendy stop-off for the yachting
set. At the northern fringes of Las Americas is the relatively
stylish and rapidly expanding resort of Fañabé .
Many new luxury,
quality Apartment complexes are keeping pace with the new hotels
in terms of quality and facilities. |

Projecting a
similar, exclusive image much the same as as Fañabe, Los
Moritos , to the south of central Las Americas and bordering
Los Cristianos (leaving it no space for further growth) is near
some of the least crowded beaches - the extravagant architecture
of the five-star Mare Nostrum Resort setting the local
tone.
The new state of
the art Conference Centre, in both facilities and
innovative structural design, is now attracting many business
conferences and bringing the professional companies and
businessmen to Las Americas. These companies are also promoting
the new Playa de Las Americas throughout the world. |
